Alejandro Sauceda Fuentes

alejandro

Hometown: Sabinito, Sonora

Alejandro Sauceda Fuentes joined Reserva Monte Mojino’s (ReMM) stewardship team in 2009. He had been working for years as a ranch hand on a number of cattle operations in the area and was at Rancho San Pablo when he decided to make a career change into conservation. Alejandro already had a keen knowledge of the tropical deciduous forest landscape, plants, and animals, and many of his ranch skills were transferrable to the day-to-day field operations for ReMM. Alejandro is involved in all aspects of ReMM conservation and outreach work. He and his family live part-time on the ReMM properties where they provide an important presence among neighboring landowners. Alejandro and his wife, Juana Hermosillo Baldarama, have been especially instrumental in making improvements in the buildings and garden at El Guayabo, ReMM’s gateway property. They also provide important field support for visitors and researchers staying at ReMM facilities (Juana now has a bi-national following for her handmade tortillas!) Alejandro was born in Alamos but grew up in Sabinito, where he met Juana. They have three children: Alejandra, Ivan David, and Omar. Since joining ReMM and participating in the Sonoran Joint Venture Bird Guide Training Program, Alejandro has become an excellent birder. He also enjoys drawing many of the birds that Juana embroiders and sells in conjunction with the Sabinito women’s embroidery group.
